INTERREG IV

With the INTERREG IIIA Ireland/NI programme now closed for application the focus is now on what future funds will be available for cross-border and trans-national cooperation for the 2007-2013 period.

The NEP has helped prepare a bid of circa £10m to submit to this new programme on behalf on the NE grouping of local authorities.  We expect to hear a decision in mid 2008.  Interestingly the new programme allows for the participant of partners in the West of Scotland.

Examples of Successful Projects - Northern Ireland &
the Border Counties (RoI)

The North East Partnership was established in 2004 by a grouping of eight Councils in the north east region of Northern Ireland. The aim of the Partnership is to explore and develop a wide range of regional, inter-regional and cross-border development opportunities. The partnership is presently funded by the European Union INTERREG IIIA Ireland/Northern Ireland programme and eight member councils. It is one of several similar 'Interreg' Partnerships as depicted below; also see links to www.icban.com and  www.eastborderregion.com

The Management Committee

The 24 person Management Committee presently consists of one elected representative from each member council, the Chief Executive from four of the eight constituent councils and twelve social partners nominated by organisations in the private, trade union, educational, community and voluntary sectors.

The partnership held its first AGM in September 2004 which coincided with the appointment of Frank McGrogan as development manager. The following officers were elected to serve during the 2006/07 period:

Chairperson: Cllr Stephen Nicholl (statutory partners)
Vice-chair: Gerry Bradley (social partners)
Secretary: Jim Edmondson (social partners)
Treasurer: Tommy Collins (social partners)

Funding Information & Cross Border Networking Opportunities

The North East Partnership seeks to encourage NE regional partners and organisations to fully investigate the sources of help and assistance available. Potential applicants typically need to submit their applications with one or more partners from other regions or countries in order to have their joint applications assessed. Similarly, it takes time to establish and build up relationships between partners.
